The short version
I'm a tech guy who speaks your language. I spent the first part of my career as a litigator, and I started and grew a law firm. Then I retrained as an engineer and spent the next several years building data, workflow and AI systems for one of the largest aerospace and defense companies in the country. Habeas Code puts those two careers together: software for law firms, built by someone who knows how a firm actually runs.
Building and scaling a firm
In 2010 I started a family law firm in Orlando from scratch. By 2017 it was bringing in more than $5 million a year in fees, and in 2018 it was ranked #9 on the University of Florida's Gator100 list of the fastest-growing businesses owned or led by UF alumni. Charity and community work were part of the firm's culture throughout.
Growing that fast taught me where firms break. Intake can't keep up with the phone. Staff retype the same facts into form after form. Deadlines are tracked in someone's head. Clients call to ask what's happening because nobody has time to tell them. Partners can't see which matters are stuck or which ones make money. Most of what I build today is aimed squarely at those problems.
Becoming an engineer
I made a full career change into technology. I started as an ETL developer and data integration engineer at a consulting firm, moving large volumes of data out of legacy systems and into cloud platforms on AWS, Oracle and SQL Server. I earned a master's in data science along the way, and finished it in 80 days.
Since 2023 I've been a Senior Principal Data Engineer at a Fortune 100 aerospace and defense company, reaching that level less than four years after changing careers. The work there includes:
- An AI-driven measurement and data pipeline, built with agentic AI tools, that saves $2.5 million per aircraft
- An enterprise learning management system deployed sector-wide, which was nominated for the President's Award
- A multi-stage approval portal with automatic Windows sign-in and a full audit trail
- A statistical cost model that cut bid pricing from days to under 10 seconds
- Automated deployment pipelines and orchestration with Apache Airflow

Why law firm software
Off-the-shelf case management tools are built for the average firm, and no firm is average. With modern tools, and AI models like Claude in particular, a custom system that fits one firm's practice is no longer a seven-figure project. I built a full case management platform for Florida family law to prove it: client intake, 50 court forms, deadlines, a client portal, billing, a workflow builder and Claude document review.
When we talk, you won't need to explain what a matter, a conflict check or a filing deadline is. You also won't need to translate my answers out of engineering-speak.
What I do, and what I don't
I build, connect and support software. Habeas Code is a software and technology company, not a law firm. I don't provide legal services or legal advice, and I don't practice law. The attorneys who use the software review and are responsible for every document and decision.
